The munificence of UB employees opposite a university brightened
the lives of scarcely 50 families in need this past holiday
season.

The holiday suggestion came from a some-more than 35 offices,
departments and schools that participated in UB’s Adopt a
Family program, sponsored by a Office of Community Relations.

Tionte Brown and her fiancé, Ali McKoy, who were
nominated by a University District Community Development
Association and a Salvation Army, were among those assisted by
the UB program.

“We walked into a jobs during a Buffalo collections agency

earlier,” Brown said.

“They told everybody to go home, that a group was
shutting down. We had worked there 7 years and there was no
announcement or anything. It was a misfortune day of my
life.”

Brown pronounced that unexpected being out of work put her and her
fiancé behind on everything.

“Any new income we made, we went to Family Dollar to try
and start shopping presents for a kids that we could set aside for
Christmas. We are so happy that we were selected by this program. We
are unequivocally beholden that people care.”

“adopted” a family for a holidays, purchasing toys,
clothing, present cards and most indispensable domicile equipment from the
families’ wish lists. Gifts were distributed to a families
on Dec. 18 in Allen Hall, South Campus. The families also had the
opportunity to accommodate sponsoring expertise and staff members.

For Brown and McKoy, it was a School of Dental Medicine.

“I have participated in Adopt a Family given a second
year of a program,” pronounced Eileen Mcilhagga, a business
operations manager during a school. “Years ago, my father
passed divided 3 months before Christmas. we was a singular parent
with a 6-year-old son, and that left us unequivocally struggling. Then my
son’s facile propagandize nominated us for a module that
helped families in need of assistance.

“I had only started with UB, and a support from that
program done all a disproportion for us that Christmas. The memory
is still unequivocally clever for me. You don’t forget a
kindness.”

Happy families and UB expertise and staff sponsors smiled and
shared tears and hugs during a Adopt-a-Family event. UB Community
Relations Director Linwood Roberts pronounced a expansion in university
offices and departments participating in a Adopt-a-Family program
says a good understanding about a UB community.

this room with presents, to wrap, adorn and proffer their time
and appetite is such a large partial of creation this eventuality what it
is,” he said.
